Velma Rae Greenfield

Velma Rae Greenfield, 84 of Lincoln passed away October 18, 2021.
Velma was born in rural Fillmore County, Nebraska on October 10, 1937 to Raymond and Esther W. (Goesch) Salmen. After graduating from Henderson high school, Velma moved to Lincoln where she worked at the University of Nebraska Agricultural Engineering Department as a secretary and bookkeeper.
On March 31, 1957 she married the love of her life, Jerry Greenfield of Lincoln. Velma was a wife to a firefighter and a stay-at-home mom while they raised their three young children. As her children grew older, she decided to work outside the home. Velma was employed by Garrett Construction for 14 years as an office manager.
Velma was a doting mother, grandmother and Gigi. She, along with her husband Jerry, always jumped at the chance to spend time with their grandkids. She loved gardening and flowers and she shared that love with her children and grandchildren. Velma was an accomplished seamstress and was quick to create what was desired. She enjoyed traveling the country with family and friends, baking, genealogy research, bowling, camping, snow skiing and cheering on the Huskers. Velma was active in her community service efforts. She was a Road to Recovery volunteer for over 10 years; blood donor and participated in many heart walks.
Preceded in death by her loving husband; parents; sisters, Lorna Dickensheet and Elaine Ekstrand and brother Maurice. Survivors include sons, Steve, Lincoln; Kevin (Jamie), Chandler, AZ and daughter Joni (Brian), Lincoln. Grandchildren Tyler, Megan (Layne), Aaron and Ethan. Great Grandchildren Faith and Jordan. Sisters, Arylis Huebert and Joleen Traudt and Brother-in-law Jim Erickson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Service: Friday, October 22, 2021 at 10:00AM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home (5200 R Street).
Visitation: Thursday, October 21, 2021 from 4:30 - 7:00PM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to Alzheimer's Association.
