Obituary

Robert Ray Wassenberg

December 13, 1951 ~ February 10, 2021

Robert (BOB) Ray Wassenberg, 69, of Lincoln, passed away February 10, 2021. He was born on December 13, 1951 in Humboldt, NE to Ray and Marie Wassenberg.

Bob grew up in Humboldt with four older  sisters, a younger brother and two hard working parents. He was a bit ornery as a kid and his sly smile would get him out of anything. He was involved in multiple sports & activities and was always proud of his small town roots.

Bob moved to Lincoln and spent many years playing softball and basketball with family and friends. He worked in the cabinet business for many years and while he did keep all of his fingers, he did lose some hearing along the way.

Bob had two children and was an amazing father from the start. He was a gentle and incredibly patient man. He was always actively involved in Matt and Lisa’s activities and there when they needed him. Bob was willing to go just about anywhere and do anything. His standard answer was, “whatever you kids want to do.”

He recently retired and enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and finishing sudoku puzzles...always with a pencil. He liked to go to sporting events and walk around town, taking in the sights of Lincoln. He especially loved spending time with his granddaughter, Twyla, and watching her grow. He was always playing with her on the floor, calmly walking her around and telling her stories, or trying to figure out how to get his “smart” phone to take that picture he wanted.

Bob was very proud to be a grandpa, dad, uncle, brother and friend. He remembered everyone and everything. He was the best storyteller, he was witty and he was simply a great person to be around. He may not have said much, but what he did say was genuine. You always knew he was looking out for you, ready to have a beer with you and to help if you need it.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents and Brother, Gary Wassenberg

He is survived by his children, Matt (Jenn) Wassenberg of Omaha and Lisa Wassenberg of Omaha; Grandchildren, Twyla Wassenberg and Rumple Wassenberg; Sisters, Patty (Ken) Burow, Annie (Dean) Usher, Sue Wassenberg and Shirley (Mike) Bernecker; Many nieces, nephews, relatives & friends.
