Noukone Khammaly passed away August 16, 2020 peacefully at home surrounded by her family.
She was born March 1, 1942 in Pakse, Laos to Khoun & Phady Thanakone.
She fled Laos during the Communist takeover in the late 70’s and eventually found her way to Grand Island, Nebraska. She worked at Monfort’s Meat Packing plant for over a decade before saving enough money to purchase a business alongside her husband, The Oriental Market. She faithfully worked to bring hard-to-find groceries and produce to the community for over twenty years.
She was a proud wife, mother, grandmother, and a big supporter of the Lao community in GI.
In her retirement, she enjoyed gardening, walking, fishing, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Prayoune of 51 years, and several siblings in the U.S., Canada, and Laos; children-Aphidet (Annie) of Lincoln, Ne; Angkana (Eric) of Tampa, Fl; Malay (Nelson) of Decatur, Ga; and grandchildren-Caiya, Ryan, Kammali, Nelson Jr., and Eva.
Visitation: Wednesday, August 19, 2020 form 1:00 - 5:00 PM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home (5200 R Street)
