James J. Lytton, 78, of Lincoln passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2021. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska and grew up in the Kansas City area. He has a BMus. from Westminster Choir College, a MMUS. from Southern Methodist University, and earned the Choirmaster Certificate (ChM.) through examinations by the American Guild of Organists. His organ teachers included Bill Lemonds, Mary Krimmel, Donald McDonald and John Hooker. He studied conducting with George Lynn, Robert Carwithen and others. He taught school and served churches in several states and the District of Colombia. He prepped choirs to sing in the National Cathedral in Washington, as well as New York City’s Carnegie Hall. He was previously Dean of the Lincoln chapter of the American Guild of Organists. Most recently, he served as organist for St. David’s Church in Lincoln.
He is survived by younger brother John Lytton of Lawrence, Kansas.
