Obituary

Brian L. Turnwall, 52, of Valparaiso, passed away Friday, February 26, 2021. He was born on November 9, 1968 in Wahoo to Gary Turnwall and Ina Carroll. Brian grew up in the rural Weston area. As a kid Brian enjoyed the outdoors and spent many hours hunting, fishing, and trapping in the area creeks. He also spent a lot of time on the family farm. Brian grew up loving the game of baseball. Brian played on the area Weston and Wahoo baseball teams. After baseball Brian enjoyed playing fast and slow pitch softball on area teams. Later in life he and his family enjoyed attending the College World Series every year. Brian graduated from Bishop Neumann in 1987. While in high school Brian excelled in sports and enjoyed the social aspect of high school life. He was a friend to many.

Brian met Kim just before his senior year of high school. They married on October 23, 1993 in Valparaiso. They made their life in the Valparaiso area. Brian and Kim enjoyed being together and always found a way to laugh even when life wasn't so funny. Brian and Kim had two daughters Jordan and Allissa. Brian learned to be a softball catcher, coach, and supporter. Most weekends would find Brian at a ball field watching his daughters play softball or at a fairgrounds watching a calf show. Brian was always great at helping pick out the right show calf and encouraging that one more bid. Family was everything to Brian and he made sure he always made time for them. Brian worked in various professions but his greatest joy was owning and operating the Val Market. Brian also enjoyed his years as an auctioneer helping at many local auctions and events. Brian was a member of the Valparaiso-Touhy Knights of Columbus, Valparaiso Businessmen's Club, 4-H Beef Volunteer, and Val Days Committee.

Brian was a man of back roads cruising, 80's music, old country, family traditions, John Wayne movies, fishing with a new jig, hunting in the creek, Christmas lights, community, and sticking up for the small guy. Brian and his sense of humor and caring heart will be greatly missed.

Brian is survived by his wife, Kim; daughters, Jordan, Allissa.
