Shirlee Vinton Obituary (1930 - 2019)

Shirlee L. Vinton, 89, passed away Friday, June 14, 2019, at Tabitha Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lincoln, NE. She was born February 19, 1930, in Sidney, IA to Sidney and Ellen (Murphy) Shannon. Shirlee graduated from Cathedral High School in Omaha, NE and attended Creighton College. She married John H. Vinton III on June 3, 1952, in Mullen, NE. To this union ten children were born; they later divorced. Shirlee received her LPN from North Platte Nursing School. She and her life partner moved to Lincoln in 1988 where she worked as an LPN at Tabitha. Shirlee retired in 1995 and then volunteered with hospice and took care of two of her grandchildren. Shirlee is survived by her life partner, Mary Ellen Macomber; children, Hop (Kathy) Vinton of Mullen, NE, Tom (Jennifer) Vinton of Omaha, NE, Bob (Cathy) Vinton of Brighton, MI, Ann Vinton-Bruce of Durango, CO, Steve Vinton of Brady, NE, Meg Vinton of Twin Falls, ID, Jean (Doug) Baum of Lincoln, NE, Chris (Sherry) Vinton of Whitman, NE, Kathleen Vinton of Omaha, NE, Nancy Vinton-Smidt of Franklin, NE; twenty-two grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Pat Motl.Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at St. Teresa's Catholic Church, 735 S. 36th Street in Lincoln, NE. Visitation will be 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Monday, June 17, 2019, with Rosary beginning at 7:00 pm at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 5200 R Street.
