Obituary for Johnnie E. Galaviz

Johnnie Eric Galaviz, 48, of Lincoln, NE asked to go home from Bryan LGH West. He fought 12 hard days to live after a fall he sustained at home due to weakness from chronic illness/poor health. On June 30, 2019, the Good Lord welcomed him home with open arms.

John is survived by his loving wife, Tara, of 27 years, daughter Talisha (Griffin) Parsley, son Andrew Galaviz, mother Vivien Peterson, mother-in-law Karlene French, brother Mike Galaviz, sisters Tammy Nelson and Sheila (Steve) Helmer, brother-in-law E. Thomas (Jessica) Hughes, sister-in-laws Shadi French, Misty (William) Dryden, Peri Wissink, Seven Schilke, many uncles and aunts, nieces and nephews as well as friends and friends who were like family.

John was proud to have served our great country, a veteran of the Unites States Army. He was a family man who spent many years with his family and friends either on a ballfield or on a court somewhere. After falling ill, he had a choice between bird watching and shooting pool so John enjoyed a few years shooting pool with his wife winning each year in city tournament. Not only did he have a competitive spirit but he was also spontaneous and adventurous throughout his life with us. John valued his time on earth filling it with memories of fun times whether it be hosting a Huskers or Cowboys football party, rappelling down cliffs, playing cards or ball, camping/boating at the lake or tanking down the river with his family and friends. John and Tara together helped many relatives and friends by opening their home and their hearts to lift them up and forward in their lives. His wife and children were his world so whether they were having dinner, playing hide-n-seek in the dark, taking a helicopter ride over Branson, snorkeling along the Jamaican beach, he treasured and appreciated every moment with them. He was truly an amazing man who will be deeply, deeply missed but never forgotten.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2019 at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Lincoln, Nebraska with a reception to follow.
